There are some specific things you can do to help you on the road to spiritual growth. Probably the most important thing is to continue to walk in faith. Remember that faith means that you believe and trust what God has said in the Bible. I’ve put some suggestions below to help you walk in that faith:

Get a Bible, and begin to read it everyday. I suggest you start with the New Testament in the book of John that I shared with you earlier, Chapter 1 and verse 1. It will tell you more about Jesus and what He did for you.

  • Talk to God every day. Just like you talked with Him earlier in your prayer to accept Jesus into your heart, continue to share with Him. I talk with God about how much I appreciate what He did for me, how thankful I am that He came into my heart and filled the void, and how much I’ve come to love Him. I also confess the sins I do on a daily basis. That’s a pretty humbling thing to do, but when I don’t I find that I (not God) create that void again in my heart and I don’t want to go back to that again! I also ask Him for strength, help, wisdom, and direction on different things I’m doing and wrestling with in life. Then I talk to Him about other people in my life; people who don’t know Him, others who are going through hard times, and more. You get the picture. Then, finally, I give it all to Him (which means I have to let go!), and finish by saying, ‘It’s in Jesus’ Holy Name I pray, Amen.’ You don’t have to talk to God exactly the way I do, but like any relationship, communication is the key to success!

  • Obey God in His commandments. When you rebel against God’s commandments promptly talk to Him about it, confess it, and receive His forgiveness. True repentance means we ‘turn away’ from our sin and don’t do it again. On habitual sin this can be a process.

  • Continue to walk in faith (belief + trust in God).

  • Find a church where you can fellowship with other Christians who will encourage you and disciple you in your faith. This will help you grow in Christ. If you go to a church and no one introduces themselves or talks with you introduce yourself and tell them you are a new believer. If you don’t feel welcome or no one takes you under their wing so to speak, go to another church. You will find one who takes your newfound faith seriously and who will disciple you, that is, teach you God’s Word and how to walk in His will.

  • Learn about the Holy Spirit and His role in your life.
