Have You Been Looking For Peace? Look here to attain it.

Hi, Leslie Montgomery here.

Do you know that the number one thing humans seek out in life is peace? We try all kinds of things to find it; success, marriage, children, money, drugs, alcohol, sex, and food are just a few I’ve tried to no avail. That’s because that void that you feel inside of you, that internal chaos that you’ve tried to fill unsuccessfully with a variety of sources, was never meant to be filled with things of the world. And no matter how hard you try to find contentment in the world or her pleasures, you will find yourself still feeling unsatisfied. Everything we try to use to fill that void is like trying to put a square peg in a round hole. It’s just impossible.

The reason it is this way is because God made that void inside of you in such a unique and special way that only He could fill it. You see, God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life. In the Old Testament there is a book called Jeremiah. In the 29 th Chapter and in the 11 th verse God says;

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

 The problem is that we cannot fulfill the plans God has for us because we are separated from God due to our own sin. In the New Testament of the Bible there is a book called Romans. In the 3 rd Chapter and in the 23 rd verse we are told;

“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

 You see, God created us with the goal of us having a personal relationship with Him, but because of our own sin nature, that is, our will and rebellion, we are not able to be in a relationship with Him. God is holy and righteous, and no unclean thing or person can be in His presence. He never intended us to be robots, so He allows us the option to live according to our own will (which brings dissatisfaction), or according to His will (which brings peace). When we chose our own way, we sin, which means that we ‘miss the mark,’ or ‘bulls-eye’ so to speak.

Have you ever been to a sporting event and seen a sign that simply said, JOHN 3:16? John is a book in the New Testament of the Bible. In Chapter 3 and in the 16 th verse it says;

“The wages of sin is death.”

The “wages” referred to in that sentence are similar to the wages a person receives from a job. You work all week and then your employer pays you what you deserve for working. Well, your wages for rebellion and walking in your sin nature is spiritual death. That spiritual death intensifies that longing you are experiencing internally, and as a result you are carrying the weight of your own sin coupled with the guilt and shame associated with doing so.
